Adventures in the Bridge and Tunnel

En Le Path Bien

Just as I was about to sit- an already seated woman hoisted her designer purse right into my face like a badge- warding me off with the powers of Gucci. “My friend is coming,” she said, as she pointed to a frantic woman, who was pinned back by a slow-moving crowd that had just started entering the train car. I thought of still sitting but the seat- saver remained poised with the purse holding it immediately above the seat in complete devotion. I froze and shot dirty looks at the purse as the train car filled in with people. Seat saving?! WHAT the HELL is THIS?! Well your friend better be 80 or need a CANE, I thought to myself. And just as my eyes shot back towards the friend, I saw a completely disinterested woman overtake the seat in one swift movement.  And suddenly it was as if the Gucci had never been there.

It only makes sense that PATH riders should maintain NYC social standards while commuting. We all know how well a seat-saver or improperly clutched Gucci would fare in the city.
